Dainty Obsessions

Real Engagement+ Katlyn & Dominic

With the chilly air and white snow, it’s nice to take a look back all the greenery and warm lighting in this adorable engagement session by Danielle Ann Photography. Luckily for us, Katlyn and Dominic graciously gave us a look back on their day along with some of their helpful tips and advice for engagement sessions.

How did you prepare for your engagement session?

As soon as I had scheduled our session I was all over Pinterest trying to gather ideas for outfits and poses. It quickly became overwhelming, and in the end we decided to wear clothes we felt comfortable in, be ourselves, and trust our photographer. I’m so glad we did because Danielle did an amazing job of capturing our love.

What process did you go through to pick out your outfits and why did you choose the certain pieces?

We wanted to make sure we chose outfits that reflected our style and that we felt comfortable in. Some were already in our closet and others we bought special for the session. We wanted a variety of pictures where some felt relaxed and others had more of a romantic feel, so we chose our outfits based on that, too.

What was the day like for both of you?

Katlyn: I couldn’t wait for our engagement session! I was so excited to spend the evening with Dom taking the pictures that would go on our Save the Dates and that we would decorate our home with. The session was very laid back and fun, and I think it showed in our pictures.

Dominic: I wasn’t nearly as excited as Katlyn. I am not really someone who enjoys having my picture taken, let alone over a hundred times. However, Danielle made it very simple for us and we felt very comfortable with her. We had a great time and came out with some awesome pictures. I might have even had some fun in the process!

What is your favorite part about each other?

We make each other laugh a lot.

Any tips for those who are going to have their engagement session?

Don’t stress too much about the session! Pick clothes that you feel great in, trust your photographer, and  just have a fun time with your fiancé.

What is your theme/colors and where will your wedding be?

Our wedding is going to be sort of a romantic garden theme with pastel colors like blush pink, light grey, and ivory. We are getting married indoors in Sioux City at the same church my brother was married at.

What has helped with the planning process?

Keeping things in perspective. At the end of the day, most of the small details aren’t going to matter, and getting to marry your best friend surrounded by those closest to you is the most important thing.

What are you most excited for in regards to your wedding day?

We are most excited to spend the day celebrating with all of our closest friends and family.
